Students in grades 11 and 12 from across the city whose studies are focused on healthcare, came to participate in simulation exercises at St Joseph’s Centre for Education, Simulation and Learning (CELS) during Learning Pillar Week. The students participated in the “Specialist High Skills Majoring in Healthcare” program, which is an approved educational program that allows them to gain credits toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

In CELS, St. Jean De Brebeuf Catholic Secondary School Students had a unique opportunity to hear from our medical residents and nurses, and explore what many different professions do in acute care settings. They were engaged in simulations of: a cardiac arrest, and airway management, for both adults and neonates.  They also participated in a fun team competition to see who could change IV bags the quickest.

Students’ had a high level of engagement and inquiry. Instructors stated that, "They are the future of healthcare providers and we wish them good luck and success as they venture out into their respective areas of study."

This is a great example of how St. Joe’s is supporting the learning journey for students in Hamilton; and one which we aim to make a tradition.

Great Job Braves!!!!
