Christian Service

Students packing food for the needyServing others is at the heart of Catholic education, and has always been a central part of Catholic schools throughout the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. Through the Christian Service Program, students continue to be challenged and enabled to put into practice their baptismal commitment to serve others while fulfilling their graduation requirements. A number of in-house volunteer opportunities were provided to students, such as the Toonies for Tuition campaign, DeMazenod Door Outreach Ministry, Coldest Night of the Year Walk to support the Neighbour to Neighbour Food Bank, participation in the Annual Haiti Happening fundraiser for child and maternal health in Haiti, Halloween 4 Hunger, Earth Week Clean Up, SuperFAST, a birthday/Christmas card writing campaign for seniors, Christmas hampers, and Jeans for St. Joe’s. A Christian Service app was developed to allow students to sign up for Christian service opportunities; currently, 1500 students/staff/parents have subscribed to the service.
