On Tuesday, September 30, SJB will recognize Orange Shirt Day in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. All students and staff are encouraged to wear an orange shirt with uniform bottoms. Standard uniform guidelines apply for all other items.

This coincides with Truth and Reconciliation Week (September 22–26) as observed by the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. During this week, HWCDSB is focused on:

  • Building positive connections and relationships and strengthening collaboration with Indigenous communities, parents, and families.

  • Recognizing the tragic legacy of residential schools, missing children, families left behind, and survivors.

  • Exploring the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences, and histories of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

  • Providing learning opportunities and resources via the Indigenous Education Learning Community LMS for staff and students.

We encourage everyone in our school community to participate fully — by wearing orange, by learning, by reflecting, and by engaging respectfully. Together we can honour this important week and support ongoing work toward truth and reconciliation.
