October is Cyber Awareness Month!
October is recognized worldwide as Cyber Awareness Month, and it’s a great opportunity to highlight the importance of staying safe online. The Educational Computing Network of Ontario, in collaboration with Ontario School Boards and the Ministry, has created helpful resources for teachers, students, and parents to promote awareness of Cyber Security, Online Safety, and Online Privacy.
This year’s theme for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students is “Cyber Heroes Unite!” It’s designed to empower young students to make smart choices when it comes to their digital identity and technology use. Through fun and engaging activities, our goal is to help students become “cyberheroes” by learning important skills, like creating strong passwords, spotting online risks, and protecting their personal information.
For high school students, the theme is “Digital Me.” This focuses on how to protect personal information online, avoid oversharing on social media, and respond safely to online threats like phishing and scams. It will also touch on topics like artificial intelligence (AI), helping students understand what it is and how it’s used.
Throughout October, we’ll be sharing different topics related to cyber security, online safety, and privacy to help keep our students informed and protected in the digital world.
