🏡 Home Escape Planning – Safety Starts at Home!
In a fire emergency, every second counts! The Hamilton Fire Department encourages all families to create and practice a home fire escape plan.
Key Safety Tips for Families:
✅ Know two ways out of every room (e.g., door and window).
✅ Check your smoke alarms regularly—be sure you can hear the “beep, beep, beep” from your bedroom.
✅ Establish a family meeting place outside your home (e.g., a tree, mailbox, or neighbor’s house).
✅ Call 9-1-1 from a safe location and never return to a burning building.

High-rise living requires special safety measures. Always:
🚪 Know two ways out of your unit (avoid elevators during fires).
🚨 Pull the alarm and call 911 immediately if there is a fire.
👨🚒 Shelter in place if escape routes are blocked, and signal for help with a cloth from your window or balcony.
