This past weekend, students from our school proudly represented our community at the DECA Ontario Provincial Competition, held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel in Toronto, and their achievements were exceptional. Competing against more than 6,300 students from across Ontario, our DECA team delivered outstanding results. For the first time in our school’s history, our DECA team earned medals at the Provincial level and also outperformed all other HWCDSB schools for the highest number of medals won, marking a significant milestone for our business and leadership club.
Two students delivered standout performances and won Best Role Play medals in their competitive events. Angelina Chittilappilly landed in the Top 20 for her HTPS (Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling) event, while Katherine Sandoval scored in the Top 20 for her MCS (Marketing Communications Series) event, demonstrating creativity, persuasive communication, and strong business strategy.
In addition, several other students qualified for Provincials and represented our school with pride and dedication, including Anthony M., Corinna C., Jasmine B., Patrick K., Benita M., and Vanessa L. Each student displayed commitment, leadership, and professionalism throughout the competition.
DECA is an international organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management through competitive events that simulate real-world business challenges. Students participate in case studies and role plays judged by industry professionals, developing critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Our DECA competitors are among the strongest student leaders in our school, investing extra time to prepare, collaborate, and challenge themselves in high-pressure situations. Their historic success at Provincials reflects not only their talent, but also their perseverance and professionalism, and sets an exciting foundation for the continued growth of DECA at our school.
Business teachers Ms. Calabrese, Ms. Frade, Ms. Peric, and Mr. Woloch, along with the school community are extremely proud of our students for representing our school with excellence in Toronto.
