CEFO recognizes Ontario’s outstanding Catholic students

Six students from the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board were recognized by the Catholic Education Foundation of Ontario (CEFO) for their outstanding contributions to Catholic education.

The awards, which are traditionally presented to the student recipients at the annual Father Patrick Fogarty Awards Dinner, went virtual this year with winners announced during a CEFO-sponsored televised mass on October 16, 2021.

Catholic Student Awards are presented annually to one student from each Ontario Catholic high school. Recipients from the HWCDSB included:
Paris Lalonde, Bishop Ryan CSS
Braedan Dunn, Bishop Tonnos CSS
Isabella Micci, St. John Henry Newman CSS
Chiara Fricano, Cathedral HS
Ricardo Caicedo Vanegas, St. Jean de Brébeuf CSS
Gerard Thudugala, St. Mary CSS

The awards recognize good scholarship, involvement in school or community activities, and conduct that typifies the objectives of the Catholic school. The awards event is named after Father Patrick Fogarty who championed Catholic education both provincially and throughout Canada.

In addition to the Catholic Student Awards, the Foundation recognizes school-based projects and initiatives to improve, develop and enhance quality Catholic education with Michael Carty and Michael Monk Awards.

This year’s Michael Monk Award was presented to uKnighted Against Racism, an anti-racism/advocacy group at St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School, in June 2021.
