Calling her an outstanding ambassador for Catholic education, Chairperson Patrick Daly publicly recognized Maddie Troisi at the June 23 Board Meeting via teleconference for her dedicated service, leadership and contributions over the past year as Student Trustee for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board.
Maddie, a Grade 12 student and Student Council President at St. Jean de Brébeuf Catholic Secondary School, was elected Student Trustee by members of the Presidents’ Council to represent the student voice on the Board of Trustees for the 2019-2020 school year. The role is a non-voting position required by law under Ontario Regulation 7/07 of the Education Act.
“Like so many other students in our system, I know that this is not the way you would have wanted the last three months of your school year to end, but I want to assure you that throughout your year of service, we have recognized your goodness, your commitment to Catholic education and we have seen on multiple occasions what an outstanding ambassador you were and are for publicly funded Catholic education,” said Daly.
“On behalf of the board, I want to sincerely thank you for your sacrifice in terms of time but more than that, in terms of the significant contribution you have made.”
In addition to her representation on the Board of Trustees, Maddie also served on the OSTA-AECO provincial association of student trustees where she advocated on behalf of Hamilton’s 29,000 Catholic students.
Wishing her all of God’s blessings, Daly indicated that he had no doubt that she would be successful in all of her future endeavours.
“I want to assure you of our deep appreciation and prayers.”
Thanking Chairperson Daly for his kind presentation, Maddie expressed her appreciation to the Board for the opportunity to serve as Student Trustee: “It was such a big pleasure.”
Maddie’s future plans will take her to Queen’s University in September where she will study Sciences.
Due to the school closure, elections for the incoming student trustee have been postponed until September. Two student trustees will be appointed for 2020-2021.
